Pacific Northwest Custom Kitchen Renovation
Neil Kelly’s in-house design consultant Stefanie Rotella helped our clients reimagine their kitchen and bar area, which hadn’t been updated since the house was built over two decades ago. The results encompass stunning transitional design with both trendy and timeless features.

Project Objectives and Client Wishlist
The objective of this renovation was to update most surfaces, fixtures, and major appliances. Our clients specifically didn’t like the existing red-toned cherry wood cabinetry.
We also planned to replace the angled peninsula with a more modern island. This change would have a substantial impact on the layout, flow of traffic, and overall look of the 270-square-foot space.
Our clients’ wishlist for this kitchen renovation included:
- Replace existing cabinetry, countertops, and backsplash
- Update fixtures and lighting
- Replace major appliances
- Swap peninsula for kitchen island
- Improve layout and flow of traffic
- Embrace transitional design with traditional and contemporary features

Design Challenges and Solutions
The main design challenge we ran into with this project was the layout—particularly getting the island to fit. “We needed to arrange the island/peninsula around an existing 36-inch wall section that was unable to be moved for structural reasons,” explains Rotella.
The solution? We designed a notably wide island that connected to the immovable wall and allowed for a nice-sized walkway between the range and sink. “In addition, this extra-deep island gave way for substantially more storage than they previously had.”
