Remodeling A Kitchen Back to It’s Original Charm!

We were called in by two realtors who had recently purchased a wonderful historic estate home in the Willamette Valley. The kitchen had been remodeled several times over the years, leaving not much original charm - even an old built in cabinet between the dining room and the kitchen had been refaced, robbing it of its’ original charm and flavor. We decided to bravely remove that cabinetry and open up the kitchen to the dining room, exposing it to the breath-taking hilltop views that the dining room enjoyed. A small addition was created under existing roof lines to create enough space in a tight laundry room for a small mudroom entry - a much needed feature in this 3-dog household. The homeowners wanted a chef’s kitchen, with commercial grade cooking equipment, and a centrally located island for food prep, eating and entertaining. We took advantage of the tall ceilings by stacking cabinetry and applied beadboard paneling to the ceiling to celebrate the high ceilings. Leaded glass in upper cabinetry highlighted by interior cabinet lighting helped to provide layers of lighting to provide depth and interest to the space. Continuity and additional storage were gained by eliminating one of the four doorways to the kitchen and moving the door to the new mudroom/laundry.
